Empowering startups and small businesses through cooperative-based funding solutions that close the funding gap and foster sustainable growth in underserved communities.
The Duapa Community Co-operative Startup Fund (DCS Fund) is a purpose-driven financing initiative developed by Duapa Werkspace to support early-stage entrepreneurs and small businesses, particularly in underserved communities across Ghana. Rooted in the spirit of cooperation, the Fund empowers local startups with affordable, accessible loans to help them grow, innovate, and create jobs.
Licensed under the Department of Cooperatives, the DCS Fund offers a transparent, community-led model where members contribute to a shared pool and benefit from financial support, business mentoring, and capacity-building opportunities. Through this inclusive approach, the Fund plays a vital role in closing the funding gap for startups, fostering sustainable development, and building a stronger local economy.
Together, We Start Strong.
A simple, transparent process that creates value for everyone involved.
Investors and members contribute to a shared cooperative fund, creating a substantial pool of capital for startup financing.
Qualified startups receive funding after a thorough vetting process, ensuring responsible lending and high success rates.
Startups repay loans with interest, which fuels investor payouts and ensures fund sustainability for future entrepreneurs.
Regular reporting keeps all stakeholders informed about fund performance, loan status, and measurable community impact
To access support from the DCS Fund, individuals or businesses must first become registered cooperative members. Membership is simple and inclusive, requiring a one-time entrance fee of GHS 20 and a minimum share contribution of GHS 100. Members are also encouraged to make regular monthly savings, which helps increase their eligibility for loans.
Once registered, members who operate eligible startups can apply for loans designed to meet their unique business needs. Loan amounts range from two to three times the member’s total savings balance. The repayment period is up to six months. To qualify, applicants must have at least one guarantor and have saved 10% of the requested loan amount.
Startups must be registered and operating in Ghana, with preference given to those in underserved regions. A valid business plan or proof of active operations is required, and applicants must demonstrate the potential for job creation or meaningful local impact.
